Fall Activities in the Chicagoland Area

Fall is such a fun time with so many wonderful outdoor activities to do with your family, friends, or significant other. Today we have rounded up some great outdoor activities for you do to this coming fall in the Chicago area.

Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns is an event at the Chicago Botanic Garden. This event has more than 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins lined up for all to see. Tickets are required for entry and are on sale now for members only, tickets go on sale tomorrow (Sept. 15) for non-members. The dates for the event are October 14-18 and 21-25. We are planning on purchasing tickets for this event!

Apple Picking is always one of the first activities that we put in our calendar! This site has listed a number of amazing apple orchards near Chicago. We definitely suggest looking at the site of the apple orchard prior to going to see their Covid safety plans, as every place is a bit different with their restrictions/requirements.

Apple picking last year! Look at those babies!!!

Come October, at least one Pumpkin patch is always a must for us! Sonny Acres Pumpkin Farm is a great place to go for some fall fun. They have a Fall Festival that goes from September 19-October 31. Carnival rides for the kiddos, haunted hayrides and barns, a spook shed for those too scared for the barn and hayride but still want a bit of a thrill, and animal rides (pony, horse, and camel) are just some of the attractions that happen during the Fall Festival.

Dinos Everywhere! at Brookfield Zoo is going on through November 1st. And although it is not a strictly fall activity, it is so fun if you have children! There are over 40 enormous dinosaurs throughout the zoo and even a little dinosaur area to walk around to see them. We had a blast when we went this summer and highly recommend it.

Pumpkin Walk at Lincoln Park Zoo is a new event this year and we are excited to try it out! Lincoln Park Zoo changed their annual Fall Festival to a Pumpkin Walk this year due to Covid. We know that this event will be just as fun!

Take a Fall foliage walk, hike, or drive! There are so many beautiful places to explore both near and far from Chicago. Some places that we have loved are: Starved Rock, Winnemac Park, Labagh Woods, North Park Village Nature Center, and Middlefork Savanna.

We can’t wait to do many of the things on this list these next weekends coming up! Happy fall y’all!
